Project Description:

This project was interesting because we had to demo all the old 4″ x 4″ ceramic tile and backerboard and then completely reinstall all the new backerboard and tile while the tub was still “in place”. With the orientation of the tub, it would not easily come out of the drop-in alcove so we had to leave it in and work around, and under, it. This was a real pain but it worked out in the end.

Project Details:

• Tile Backerboard: We used 1/2″ Durock Cement Board on the walls and 1/4″ Cement Board on the tub deck. This was all screwed off and then the joints were taped and coated with thinset.
• Tile: The customer selected a river rock style mosaic tile and wanted the natural edge of the sheet to be the finished edge. That is what you see in the photos and why there is a “wave” on top.
• Grout: The grout used is a Custom Prism Performance grout.
• Trim: We used a Schluter Bullnose Metal outside corner to finish the outside corner of the tub apron wall. This creates a very smooth and clean joint.
• Granite Countertop: For those wondering, I believe the countertop is a Blue Pearl Granite.
