Curio Cabinet and Remodel
We built this custom glass curio cabinet as part of a larger kitchen remodeling project. The kitchen turned out beautifully, but this display cabinet was by far my favorite part of the project. There is certainly no better way to create a one-of-a-kind piece in your home than with a glass display cabinet to show off your grandma’s teacups or your favorite china.

Project Description:
We built this custom curio cabinet for a customer during an extensive home and kitchen remodeling project we did for them. There was an old wall mounted oven and microwave, which were removed, and then we built this curio cabinet in their place. It created an extremely functional use of the dead-space without simply filling it in and patching it with drywall.

Cabinet Details:
- Cabinet Box and Shelves: The cabinet box was built out of 3/4″ cabinet-grade Birch plywood.
- Face Frame and Cabinet Doors: The face frame and doors were built using solid Red Oak stock wood and then 1/8″ glass was installed in the custom doors.
- Cabinet Finish: The cabinet was finished with multiple coats of clear Polyurethane wood sealer.
- Lower Doors: The lower cabinet doors were taken from an existing kitchen cabinet and used on this cabinet to tie it in with the kitchen cabinets.
- Lighting: A LED disc light was wired and installed in the top of the cabinet for a beautiful accent lighting.
- What’s Inside: The homeowner filled the cabinet with her favorite pottery and dishes. She was actually into making pottery and she made two coffee cups for me at the end of the project (which I still use today). It’s always fun to get a special “thank you” like that.
